Welcome to our Website Welcome parents, children, governors and visitors to the Abacus Primary School Website. Our hope is that this website will provide a vital role in providing parents with up to the minute information, children with an interactive learning environment, and visitors with a great introduction to the school. Please be aware that the site is an ongoing project and will hopefully develop and improve as the year progresses.
TAKE A LOOK AROUND I encourage you to browse around our website, you will find details of school events, visitors and activities that serve to enliven the curriculum, alongside information about our after school clubs and extra curricular activities that your children can participate in. This is a very exciting time for Abacus anow that the second phase of the new build has been completed, which has enhanced provision for Early years, providing another 15 places {initially} This opened September 2008 and is a purpose built working environment. If you would like to know even more about our school and see our 'School Profile' go to www.schoolsfinder.direct.gov.uk I hope you enjoy using the site.
Beginnings and End of school day arrangements
All children will be allowed into school from 8.40 a.m., lessons commence at 8.50 a.m. prompt. At the end of the day, lessons finish at 3.15 p.m. when children then tidy up and get ready to leave. Under Government regulations all schools have set hours per week that children should be taught. Please be patient if your child is not out of school immediately at the end of the day. The new arrangements appear to be working very well. Thank you.
As you are aware, there are now regulations regarding absence from school. The Governors will be discussing this in further detail at the next Governing Body meeting.
Please ensure that you have the calendar of holiday dates which is sent out regularly and avoid taking your child out of school during term times.
Bags
Please note that pupils (unless doing swimming or other clubs) will only need a book bag in school. The cloakrooms are too small for 60 pupils with large bags and when really bad weather starts there will be even less room. We do ask for your co-operation in this matter.
These are essential items of school clothing and are needed in school every day. We would prefer pupils to wear the regulation PE shirt as our pupils look so smart. However, we would prefer white PE shirts if at all possible with black shorts. Please check with your child to see if they have their PE kit in school. Thank you.
Please ensure that all items of clothing are clearly marked.
Walk to School
We are trying to encourage all families as far as possible to walk/ride (bicycle*) to school every day. We would like parents to use the top entrance, as parking is easier. We need to start using this entrance ready for the school extension. Remember, please do not park in the school car park under any circumstances unless you are coming to collect a sick child. Please do not park across the entrance either !
*Children cycling to school must wear a helmet and be accompanied by an adult unless they have passed a cycling proficiency test.
Help in School
Parents are welcome into school to help and I am sure that the class teacher would appreciate the extra pair of hands.
